Lots has happened since our blog went under construction, we are just catching up! This week we write about the short film winners from the Tribeca 2015 Film Festival. There were three categories: narrative, documentary and a student piece.
The first and riveting is Body Team 12 a short documentary about a team working in Liberia, collecting bodies as a result of the Ebola outbreak. The trailer shares the unbelievable anguish experiences by people who had lost their loved ones. Conditions are not something people in the US see but at the risk of disrespecting the community, no comment only a recognition that from the housing….living is not without sacrifice.
The second is a student short film about a young lady who aspires to walk a ‘live catwalk’.
The Third is a heartbreaking piece about the enormous personal struggle with domestic abuse and violence and the equally powerful challenge of a culture that is really not understood.

Catwalk, directed by Ninja Thyberg, written by Ninja Thyberg. (Sweden) – North American Premiere, Narrative. Nine-year-old Ella’s classmates are playing in the schoolyard in full adult dress-up, and she wants to be part of that world in Catwalk.

Listen, directed by Hamy Ramezan, Rungano Nyoni, written by Hamy Ramezan, Rungano Nyoni. (Finland, Denmark) – New York Premiere, Narrative. In Listen a foreign woman in a burqa brings her young son to a police station to file a complaint against her abusive husband, but the translator assigned to her seems unwilling to convey the true meaning of her words.
