In Motion, in it’s 4th year and housed within the interdisciplinary world of Dance and Film at Loyola University, opens it’s 4th season March 21, 2018!
The Mission of In/Motion:
In/Motion aims to celebrate dance performance within digital media platforms by encouraging artists to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and by fostering innovation in the presentation of movement-based artworks.
The Vision for In/Motion
- To establish Chicago’s premier dance film festival, making our city an international destination for dance/digital media performances.
- To support both emerging and established dance/digital media artists who are pushing boundaries in multiple performance domains.
- To educate a dance/digital media audience.
- To highlight dance/digital media work with a social justice message.
The In/Motion Film Festival begins March 21 and runs through March 25, 2018. The Film Festival events will be held at different venues on the Loyola University campus in Chicago. Click here for the schedule.

2017 Audience Award Winner: Intrinsic Moral Evil
These short films from 2017 were mind bending and mind expanding; the 2018 festival will again reflect the core values of In Motion according to Amy Wilkinson, festival co-founder and Senior Lecturer of Dance, “We want to draw in and emphasize diversity and programming, not just international short film but diversity in terms of dance drama, contemporary, experimental, ballet, physically integrated dance, mix of genres of dance. I’m really excited because there’s something for everyone…we challenge ourselves to remain true to the core vision and mission of the festival and yet still amplify the voices of under represented communities. We were particularly attracted to artists who are engaging around social justice issues, we really want artists that have a POV and have something to say about the issues of our time.” Aaron Greer, also a co-founder and Film and Media Program Director at Loyola, describes the 2017 festival in this way: “I’m surprised every year by the ingenuity that is creatively expressed, the artists are just amazing. The variety of kinds of film and dance styles, the definition of a dance film gets pushed and expanded in interesting ways every year. People are doing this work all over the world and under all sorts of conditions. Dance from people who have disabilities…dance that pushes the limits of what is film.” Get your tickets here!
The Women’s Film Festival
The Women’s Film Festival opened March 16th and continues until March 24, 2018. They are screening over 70 films, features and dynamic short film programs. It s rapidly becoming the largest women’s film festival in Philadelphia…please check it out!

SXSW
This was the 25th anniversary of the SXSW Interactive, Film and Music festival and it did not disappoint. Late Winter and Spring is the beginning of the major film festival season, a season punctuated by key award moments…you know, the Oscars, the Spirit Awards and the Golden Globes, not in that order…but don’t miss the festivals that showcase feature films with some of the best short films one can imagine.
